The Offender’s Perspective: Significant Steps Forward in Education
Wednesday 17th July, 2019
Possibly one of the biggest changes arose following an interview which SAV held last year with one of Lloyd’s murders. This meant that we have now updated our workshops to include a look at the events of the evening through the eyes of the offender- a strong story with some unusual twists along the way. This section always provokes a lot of discussion amongst the young people we work with, particularly when we show the reaction that Adam, Lloyds brother had to that day- the whole topic of justice and revenge is thoroughly debated!
We also had our first whole ‘education staff’ training week where we all met together face to face for the first time ever. All teachers were able to look at and be trained in delivering our updated lessons as well as update their safeguarding training and generally share experiences, advice on certain aspects of delivery and offer support for those just starting out. Feedback from the teachers showed how much they had valued the opportunity to get to know each other and how they now felt able to contact peers for support and also felt much more a part of the charity- just like a real team! Since then we have continued to have regular SKYPE meetings and are planning an annual ‘update weekend’
