Great leaps forward for the Stand Against Violence Education team

Monday 23rd March, 2020

40,000 young people, Premier League football clubs and a new workshop for prisons. Quite a year for our education team.

We are thrilled to report that our education team reached over 40,000 young people in 2019!

We extended our area of delivery, teaching across the country from Truro to Sunderland, and are excited to have brought new teachers onboard to meet the increase in demand for our work.

There’s also a new Stand Against Violence ‘Northern Hub’ with a newly appointed lead, Paul Bell, to help oversee the day to day running and expansion of work in that region. Paul is an experienced SAV teacher who also heads up the self defence aspect of our work and is already creating a great team in the area, as well as securing new opportunities for growth. One such success is our recent work in a prison; this exciting new direction was initiated by Paul last summer, and it has quickly become a regular feature in the prison schedule. Following the positive impact seen from this workshop, we are now planning to extend the model to other prisons.

Professional football clubs provided another new focus for us in 2019. We began by working with some of the community foundations linked to various teams and delivering workshops to targeted groups. Our work progressed to working directly with academy players and predicted stars of the future, for some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool FC. It is reassuring to know that those young players – who may become club and national team representatives, and followed by thousands of young people – will have seen our workshop and absorbed our message.

None of this success would have been possible without our wonderful Stand Against Violence team and incredible supporters who have raised funds, donated money, and supported our events throughout the year. Huge thanks to you all!
