Raising Community Awareness
Monday 18th November, 2013
We had some great conversations with a variety of members of the community both young and old. We had two lovely ladies who came over to say what an amazing job we do. A young girl who had been in a class we taught at the Taunton Academy came over to say hello too. Great opportunity to ask for some feedback and I was amazed by her comment. She said "since our workshop there had been no more fights in her year" and that was over a year ago now.
Luis Young from Elementz Street Dance (one of Lloyd's friends) came over to say hi and then him and his young crew spontaneously decided to do a brief bit of fundraising for us by doing a dance routine next to our stand and donating the money they made. In about 30 seconds of them starting there was a huge crowd around us watching and they raised £10 in donations for a couple of minutes of dancing. They are a very talented group and we were grateful for their support. It also gave us something great to watch to distract us from the cold!
Finally after a great discussion with Jane Hofmeister from Think Amy we have decided to join forces in our school work and offer joint workshops. We will be adding Think Amy to our website soon as a partner.
We would like to thank all the volunteers for helping us out that day. Laura and her family were amazing and so helpful. Really nice spending some time with them. Also thank you to the community and those who came by to buy Christmas cards and say hello. Of course thank you to Luis and his team for the street dance.
