Welcome to Megan, our new education and training lead
Thursday 8th September, 2016
“My background is in education, I’m a qualified secondary teacher and worked in a school for a couple of years but I found my real passion, teaching life skills education when I worked for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as part of their community safety team. I worked mostly with teenagers, teaching them fire and road safety and the dangers of playing with fire, using real life examples to change attitudes and empower them to make safer choices. I moved to the South West to a short term project management role at Girlguiding training volunteers to set up and run youth groups which came to an end just as the SAV role was due to start.
I joined SAV just over a month ago – and what a busy month it has been! I attended a couple of school workshops before the holidays and I’m looking forward to delivering at many more schools next academic year. I’m working on some new education resources that will be freely available to schools from September. Lastly I’ve launched a new SAV training, as part of our new partnership with The Southern Cooperative delivering training to their store staff on how to prevent and safely deal with violent incidents.
I have great plans for developing the educational reach of the charity, developing new partnerships and resources, so we can not only deliver our excellent work at more schools but also targeting young people most at risk of violence. It’s going to be one exciting year and I look forward to sharing my progress with you.”
Adam Fouracre, CEO of Stand Against Violence said, "we are delighted to welcome Megan to the team. She is already making a significant difference to our work with many exciting new projects, opportunities and improvements to our existing work. Myself and the trustees very much look forward to working closely with Megan and are excited about the future."
